Annual Celebration of STEM
Glasgow Science Centre
Friday 9 June 2017

300 young scientists, engineers and teachers from 50 Scottish Primary and Secondary schools showcased their projects at the annual Celebration of STEM. Teams of budding engineers and scientists enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their hard work, experiments and projects to an expert panel of judges. They also got the chance to compete for exciting prizes and take part in fun, hands-on against-the-clock STEM Challenges set by companies.

Annual Celebration of Engineering and Science

500 young scientists, engineers and teachers from 60 Scottish Primary and Secondary schools showcased their projects at the annual Celebration of Engineering & Science. Clubs showcased a range of their projects and participated in 3 minute STEM challenges set by 20 companies. In addition, the Celebration hosted the finals of Junior Saltire Awards, Heather's Hut, 3D Printer design Challenge and the Go Forth! bridge building challenge.

Grampian Transport Museum
12/13 June 2015

Grampian Transport Museum in Aberdeen hosted heats of the IET F24 (11-16 year olds) and IET Goblin (9-11 year olds) race categories on 12/13 June. The event was sponsored by TAQA.

Local school teams have also been backed by TAQA, and a number of their employees volunteered to help at the event, as the global firm’s UK base is located in Aberdeen. TAQA is in full support of Greenpower’s main aim of educating the next generation of engineers in sustainable engineering and technology, in a fun environment.

On Friday 12 June, three of the F24 teams racing at the Grampian Transport Museum qualified for the Greenpower International Final, which will be held at Rockingham, in Northamptonshire, on 11 October. The trio of teams from Scotland joining the final include:

- Thurso High School
- Grampian Transport Museum Young Engineers
- Albyn School

The overall winner of the Goblin race day on Saturday was Midmar School.

Annual Celebration of Engineering and Science

BAE Systems Maritime - Naval Ships Partner Schools Event

7 partner schools from across Glasgow and the surrounding area participated in our inaugural event at BAE Systems Maritime - Naval Ships, Scotstoun. The event was an opportunity for pupils interested in engineering to tour the facilities, meet STEM Ambassadors and learn more about career opportunities within the organisation. In addition,
the event hosted the finals of the Shipshape Challenge.

Gas@200 Event
Culzean Castle, South Ayrshire
18 March 2013

Following on from the success of our recent event at Biggar and to celebrate 200 years of the gas industry, pupils from 7 local primary schools were joined by local MSP Adam Ingram recently at a “Gas@200” event at Culzean Castle, kindly supported by National Grid and Historic Scotland. Pupils visited the old gas house situated within the grounds which now houses an exhibition on gas production, and the life of William Murdoch, pioneer of domestic gas lighting. Each school also received a free “Hydrocarbons in Action” resource kit to continue their study of Oil & Gas.


The LR Foundation Shipshape Eco-Ferry Challenge Event
Greenock Town Hall, Inverclyde
11 December 2012

22 teams from schools across Inverclyde recently participated in The Shipshape Eco-Ferry Challenge regional event. Teams of 4 were given a kit of electrics and 2 hours to design and build and eco-ferry which was then tested and judged. The winning team in each category received a cheque for £100 and were invited as VIP guests to the official launch of the world's first roll-on roll-off (RORO) hybrid ferry at Port Glasgow on 17 December 2012.

Winners in each category were:

S1-S3 - St Stephen's High School
S4-S6 - Inverclyde Academy

Gas@200
Biggar Gasworks, South Lanarkshire
Friday 9 November 2012

To celebrate 200 years of the gas industry, pupils from 6 local primary schools were joined by local MSP and Scottish Government Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell recently at “Gas@200” event at Biggar Gasworks, kindly supported by National Grid and Historic Scotland. They were given a tour of the gasworks and learned about how coal gas was made as well the life of a modern gas engineer. Each school also received a free “Hydrocarbons in Action” resource kit to continue their study of Oil & Gas.
